Unreal Engine Quality.
Zero Complexity.
AAA visuals. Real-time lighting. Beautiful materials.
All delivered in a purpose-built tool for designers, not game developers.
By leveraging Unreal Engine’s continuously evolving rendering technology, Carbon allows Epic’s engineers to focus on advancing visual fidelity — while we focus on building the workflows live entertainment depends on.

No, only the host needs to have a team membership to start a session.
Other members can have either solo or team memberships, in any combination.
We are exploring a relatively new technology, called pixel streaming, which would allow for a cloud hosted computer with a high-end GPU to run Carbon and "stream" the rendering live to a remote user with nothing more than a browser. Stay tuned for more news on that when we finish our research.
Short answer is we don't know yet!
The underlying tech we used is shared with other massive multiplayer games such as Epic Games Fortnite.
To ensure best performance, we've imposed a temporary limit of 16 users in one session.
Please contact us if you foresee needing more collaborators at one time.
Windows:
6-core 4ghz processor or better (8 core 5ghz recommended),
16gb of ram (32/64 recommended)
Nvidia RTX GPU with at least 6gb of VRAM (RTX 4090+ recommended)
SSD or NVME drive for storage
Available gigabit ethernet port for console connectivity, and a stable, non-firewalled internet connection for sign in and Multi-user sessions
Mac:
For best results, please use macs with the following chips-
(sorted from fastest to slowest)
Apple M3 Ultra
Apple M4 Max
Apple M3 Max
Apple M2 Ultra
Apple M4 Pro
Apple M5
The best way to experience Carbon for the first time is by joining one of our live demos.
Short answer is no. Carbon is entering the market as a new way to start the design process.
It is most valuable during the ideation and pitch phase.
While there is DMX input connectivity (Artnet and SACN), you will notice that performance is not on par with other great tools in that space.
We want to be honest with where the product fits now, and when we reach performance parity, we will update our features list to include that phase.
You can request a new fixture or asset to be added directly in the inventory panel of Carbon.
Start by searching for the item you are looking for, and if no results are shown you will automatically be able to place a new request.
Turnaround time is typically 2-4 weeks for standard requests. If you require a fixture urgently for a production, please contact sales@imaginary-labs.com for a priority fixture build request quote.
You can see a full searchable list of fixtures inside Carbon. We'll soon mirror this functionality in our member portal. Please contact support@imaginary-labs.com with a list of fixtures you need and We'll respond within 24 hours.
We do not,
We've seen so many companies start with perpetual licensing, and inevitably switch to a subscription model.
We felt it most honest to start with one model and stick with an accessible price point.
Our goal is to provide constant value and ongoing service.
Carbon is cross platform, and currently works on PC (Windows 10/11) and Mac with Apple Silicon.
You will, however, notice lower overall performance on Mac (as compared to PCs with Nvidia GPUs).
This is reflected in other common benchmarks such as Blender - Open Data
Please review our current system requirements before joining Carbon.
Yes! We now have included a built-in console with savable presets.
Yes, you may install Carbon on as many computers as are needed, however only one machine may be active per membership. We do offer bulk license pricing if you need to run on serveral machines with the same account
Not yet. Building a fixture in Carbon is a painstaking and highly technical process. Soon we'll provide a fixture builder and sharing ecosystem as part of our Carbon for Unreal package.
If you are interested in participating in building fixtures for Carbon in the future, please contact us at support@imaginary-labs.com
Our license server does support checkouts for the Carbon for Unreal Plugin. This will soon be made available within the Carbon standalone application.
